Opal inlay and Tanzanite ring which needed to be Repaired

Opal inlay and Tanzanite jewelry is very popular. Both the Opals and the inlays are vulnerable to chipping and scratching and the inlays usually need to be repaired or replaced after some amount of time and the Tanzanites also need to be re-polished. We can help you with both.

This is a ring which the owner brought to their local jeweler to be repaired. The jeweler removed the Tanzanite and sent the ring and Tanzanite to me to replace the Opal inlays and to re-polish the crown of the marquise Tanzanite.

Below, you will see photos and description of the cutting process.

Opal and Tanzanite ring with missing inlay

You can see that the Opal inlay on the left side is almost entirely gone and the one on the right is also cracked and broken.

You can also see that the Tanzanite is very badly scratched and needs to be re-polished.

Opal Material to Inlay

I have selected 2 pieces of rough Opal material to be used for inlaying into this ring.

The pieces need to match. Somtimes, as I start cutting and shaping one of the pieces, the look changes and I need to go back and search for another piece of material which will match.

You can also see that the Tanzanite has been removed and it ready to be re-polished.

The finished ring

Here you can see that the Opal inlays are finished and the Tanzanite has had its crown re-faceted and looks like new again!
