Inlaying a ring with Black Jade OVER a gold tube

Customers frequently want a Diamond set in the middle of the stone in their ring. The usual way of doing that is to first set the stone and then we drill it for the tube in the middle.

This jeweler wanted to solder the gold tube to the ring 'first' and then have us inlay the Black Jade 'around' the center tube.

Ring with Black Jade

This is the ring which the jeweler sent me with the gold tube already soldered in place in the middle.

We had to very carefully drill the hole at the same time we were fitting the Black Jade inlay to fit very tightly in the emerald cut shape and also fit tightly around the center tube. This can take several hours.

the ring around tube

Here you can see the Black Jade in place around the center tube.

After carefully fitting the Black Jade to fit very tightly, with no gaps, we trim the top down so that it is flush with the outer edges of the top of the ring.
