We inlaid this ring with Black Jade and drilled it
for a Diamond tube and Masonic emblem

A jeweler in Michigan had a customer who wanted a ring custom designed and set with a black inlay, a Diamond, and a Masonic emblem.

The jeweler had some ideas on how he wanted to construct the ring with a hole countersunk in the back of the Black Jade to hide the head of the screw. I have described that below.

Here you can see the ring, the Diamond in tube, and the Masonic emblem which the jeweler sent us.

Removed the Black Jade for drilling

After trimming the Black Jade to be flush with the top of the ring, and polishing it, we remove it for drilling.

Lining up the Diamond tube and emblem

You can see how we position the emblem and Diamond tube on the stone so that we can accurately position the holes in the Black Jade.

I am now drilling a hole to fit the Diamond tube.

Counter-sinking a hole in the Black Jade

The Masonic emblem had a screw on the back to hold it in place.

The screw was not long enough to go all of the way through the back of the ring. So the jeweler asked me if we could counter-sink the back of the Black Jade for the head of the screw to be hidden.

The finished Black Jade with holes

You can see that the stone is now finished and the Masonic emblem is set in place.

The ring is ready to be assembled.

You can see how we have set the Black Jade, emblem, and Diamond tube into the ring.

The jeweler will do the final setting by gluing the Black Jade in place, trimming off the excess length of the Diamond tube, and then flaring the back of the tube so that the metal tube holds everything firmly in place for many years to come.
