We custom cut blue and yellow Sapphire
baguettes to fit this ring

A jeweler designed and made a set of custom rings for their customer. Each ring needed 3 baguettes.

One ring needed blue Sapphires and the other ring needed yellow Sapphire baguettes. It can be very difficult to find baguettes in the exact sizes. Often times, the gemstones need to be custom faceted to fit the mounting.

2 white gold rings and 3 blue sapphires glued to dop sticks and 3 yellow sapphires.

The rings and Sapphires before re-faceting

They sent us 5 ovals and a pear shape Sapphire to be re-faceted to fit the openings in the rings.

You can see that we have already glued 3 of the Sapphires to dop sticks.

Making the stone rectangular

I am shaping the Sapphire on the faceting lap.

To fit stones into channels like this, the size of the stones needs to be very accurate. We first measure the channels very carefully with a digital calipers.

We then use the same caliper to measure the stones while shaping them. We need to be very careful to not cut them too small.
