Faceting a new synthetic Emerald to match

One of the jewelers had a customer who wanted a matched set of trillion cut synthetic Emeralds. They could not find a matching stone in a short amount of time and they happened to have a piece of rough, so they asked me if I could cut thier rough to match the trillion.

In a case like this, it is important to match the facet pattern.

To do this, I wax their trillion to a dop stock and put it in my machine. I search and find all of the facets on the gemstone to be matched. I recorded all of the angles and indexes in order to duplicate the cut of the trillion. This alone can take about a half hour, depending on how many facets the stone has.

I put the jeweler's trillion synthetic Emerald on my machine and measured and recorded all of the angles and indexes so that I could duplicate the cut.

This shows two matched green trillion synthetic Emeralds.

The synthetic Emerald on the left is the one that I cut to match.
