We Faceted this Blue square Topaz Princess cut

One of the jewelers that we do cutting for had a customer who wanted a blue princess cut. They decided that they liked the color of Blue Topaz.

I keep blue Topaz rough material in stock in a variety of sizes. I was able to cut the stone they wanted from a piece that I had in stock after emailing them a photo of the piece for their approval.

This is the photo that I emailed to them so that their customer could see the type of blue color their stone would have.

Blue Topaz dopped and ready to be Faceted

You can see that the blue Topaz is now on a dop stick and mounted in my faceting machine.

Making the shape

You can see that I am in the process of making the square shape for the princess cut.

x

Cutting the first facets

Here you can see that I have placed the first 8 facets on the pavilion of the stone.

x

Adding more facets

I have added another row of facets.

x

Polishing the pavilion

I select a polishing lap which will leave a nice polish on Topaz.

I polish with 50,000 mesh diamond powder.

x

The pavilion is finished

I have taken the stone off of the dop stick.

You can see the finished pavilion and also the area where the crown will go, which is still blocky in shape.

Faceting the crown

In this photo you can see that I am creating the facet pattern on the crown.

x

Polishing the table

I have finished the crown and am now polishing the table last by mounting it in a special jig in my faceting machine.

I don't always polish the table last. It depends on the circumstance.

Here you can see the finished princess cut which turned out quite nice.
