Replace broken Black Onyx and drill for Diamond

A jeweler near Salem, MA sent us this antique ring which had a broken Black Onyx from years of wear. They needed a new Black Onyx cut for the ring.

As you will see, the sides of the Onyx are very thin.

Antique ring with broken Black Onyx

You can see how the old Black Onyx in this antique ring is chipped and broken.

They asked us to cut a new stone to the exact size to fit the ring and also drill a large hole to fit the Diamond set in a tube which will be set in the middle of the Onyx stone.

Such a large hold in a small stone can be difficult because when the walls of the stone are thin, they are more fragile.

You can now see the new Black Onyx with the hole we made for the Diamond tube.

The Diamond tube is now set in place and the ring is finished.

We do not set the Diamond here. We return all of the parts to the jeweler and they do the stone setting in their shop.
